Mrs. Margaret Ashley Oliver, age 96, passed away in the early morning at Wesley Pines, Lumberton, NC on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Margaret was born December 27, 1922 to the late James B. and Francis Edmund Ashley of Fairmont, NC. She graduated from Fairmont High School and Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She was retired from Fairmont City Schools as a school nurse and was a longtime member of the Marietta Book Lovers Club and Olivet United Methodist Church.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Paul S. Oliver, Jr. of Marietta, NC; three brothers and four sisters: James B. "Red" Ashley, Chester E. Ashley, Norman P. Ashley, Francis A. Castevens, Phyllis A. Wimbrow, Iola McDonnel, and Mary Kathryn Adams.

She is survived by her children, Paul S. "Shep" Oliver III and his wife Gayle of Marietta and Linda Oliver-Link and husband Dr. William "Bill" Link of Marietta; grandsons; Bradley Shepard Oliver of Greensboro, NC, Matthew Paul Oliver of Portland, OR, Edwin Henderson "Trace" Voorhees III and wife Terry of Elkins Park, PA, and William Christopher "Chris" Voorhees of Marietta; and a great-grandson, Devin Shepard Oliver of High Point, NC. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Erline W. Ashley of Fairmont and one sister, Jeanette Webster of West Jefferson, NC. She will be fondly remembered as "Aunt Margaret" by over 30 nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Wesley Pines and Community Hospice for their loving, sincere, and professional care.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Olivet United Methodist Church, 2553 Olivet Church Road in Marietta, NC. Visitation will follow immediately after the service.
