Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Freeman Kinlaw, 93, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, NC. She was born on October 14, 1929 to the late Andrew "A.M." & Katie Freeman.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, David Earl Kinlaw, and her eight sisters and brothers.

Mrs. Margaret was born and raised in the downtown Lumberton area before marrying David Earl and moving to the family farm in the countryside of the East Howellsville community. She had a busy and successful retail career working in downtown Lumberton at various fashion stores, where she was known for her gift of engaging sales for satisfied customers and store decorations.

Upon her retirement, she spread her energetic joy among her community friends and neighbors, her church family at Zion Hill Baptist Church, and taking care of David Earl before his passing in 2017. Thursday evenings were sacred as she entertained her grandsons, Joe IV and David and his wife Jada, and Katie and Joe, as they worked on the farm and shared her delicious Thursday night meals! She was most happy when she could be working in her yard with rake in hand, keeping her yard and her house immaculate.

She is survived by her angel daughter, Katie Butler (Joe); her grandsons, Joe IV and David (Jada); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 12883 NC 41 in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.
