Madeline Rhodes Shaw Garner, 93, of Hertford, NC, formerly of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Brian Center in Hertford, NC. She was born in Onslow County, NC on September 11, 1920 to the late Guy and Rosemond Sanderson Rhodes. She previously worked as the Robeson County Deputy Register of Deeds. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Stephen J. Shaw, Sr., her husband, Kenneth Garner; and a brother, Cecil Rhodes. Mrs. Garner is survived by a son, Stephen J. Shaw, Jr. of Littleton; a daughter, Rose Ann Riddick and husband, Tommy of Belvidere; a sister, Avis Hall from Angier, a grandson, Lindsey Riddick, Jr. and wife, Francine; a great-grandson, T.L. Riddick III; and a great-granddaughter, Loryn Wallace Riddick. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Dr. David Elks and Rev. Joe Bounds officiating. Burial will follow the service at Meadowbrook Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton.
