Mrs. Maxine "Mackie" Barkley Williams, 90, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Wesley Pines Retirement Community in Lumberton, NC. She was born in Davidson, NC on August 8, 1931 to the late Harry Nathaniel Barkley and the late Mary Lee Stillwell.

Mackie was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton, NC for over 70 years, where she received the distinguished Presbyterian Women's Life Membership Award. During her years of membership, she served on the Board of Deacons and on various church committees. She was devoted to God and her church. Anyone who knew Mackie knew she was a lady who loved fashion! She loved her family and the beach passionately as well.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Williams, Sr.; two brothers, Johnny Barkley and Jesse Barkley; and a sister, Roberta "Bert" Wally.

She is survived by her son, James Thomas "Tommy" Williams, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Lee Williams Roberts (Charles) of Charlotte, NC and Janet W. Lee (Johnny) of Little River, SC; two grandchildren, Marsden D. Haigh, Jr. (Kendall) and Elizabeth Swain (Jason); and four great-grandchildren: London D. Haigh, Brooks Haigh, Lilly Swain, and Ian Swain.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC with Rev. David Ruth and Rev. Eva Ruth officiating. Immediately following, the family will receive friends and loved ones at the graveside.
