Mabel Naomi Bass' Obituary
Mabel "Mae" Naomi Webster Bass, age 85, of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018. She was born August 4, 1933 in Rochester, NY to the late Bryan Webster and the late Florence Judd Webster. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester. On November 20, 1953, she married Ralph E. Denniston. Mae worked as a TSPS telephone operator for C&P Telephone Company, which later became AT&T, until she retired. She married M.G. "Nick" Bass on June 10, 1980.
Mae knew no strangers. If you met her, you loved her and she loved you. She loved playing piano and gospel music. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a current member of New Life Church. But, by far, her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ralph E. Denniston; her husband, M.G. "Nick" Bass; one son, Walter Denniston; three brothers: Herbert Webster, Bryan Webster, and Jerry Webster; and one sister, Myra Netchke.
She is survived by four children: Ralph Denniston II and wife Sue, Laura Denniston, David Denniston and wife Vickie, and Debra Bishop; four stepchildren: Lisa Shelton, Steve Johnson, Mike Bass, and Timmy Bass; eleven grandchildren: Christina Hart and husband Willie, David Denniston and wife Catherine, Kevin Denniston, Kathleen Brown and husband Mark, Darby Dent, Arlea Davies, Katie Gott, Jerica Dent, Jessica Bishop, Cody Williams, and Coral Osborn; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Duncan and husband Bud; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Williford officiating. Burial will follow at Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.
