Lynn Barry "Wimpy" McDaniel, 80, of Lumberton, NC died Sunday, April 19, 2026 at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC.

Lynn or Wimpy as he was known by many, proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era from 1964-1969.  Upon discharge, he returned home and began a career with Southern Bell where he was Supervisor.  Due to a life-changing illness in 1977, he was unable to work.  He spent the remainder of his life enjoying the things he loved most – his family, working in his yard, drinking coffee at the Waffle House and making others smile.  He often said that his favorite thing to do was to make someone smile.  And boy was he good at it!

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gurney McDaniel and Ola Leggett McDaniel; his wife, Juanita Miner; his sisters, Virginia "Jenny" Kinlaw and Olivia Barnes; brothers-in-law, Jack Kinlaw and Arthur Barnes; as well as a granddaughter, Antonia.

He is survived by his children, Brian McDaniel (Carolyn), Barry McDaniel (Charles), Amy McDaniel (Mike), and Beth McDaniel (JT); grandchildren, Caleb, Hannah, Mason, Emmy, Anna, Mary, Josh, Eric, Witlee, Baiylee, Corydon and Kyrie; and 10 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his nephew, Richard Barnes (Patricia aka "Richard's wife"), and his nieces, Laura Russ (Jeff aka "Laura's husband") and Julie Baxley (WL aka "Julie's husband")(IYKYK); his dog, Richard, as well as a host of family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday April 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairmont Cemetery in Fairmont, NC. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
