Lynn
Floyd
Jan 7, 1952 — Feb 23, 2023
Fairmont
William "Lynn" Floyd of Fairmont, NC… not to be confused with other "Lynn Floyds of Fairmont, NC" … was the eldest son of Bill and Faye Floyd. Much like his parents, he cared greatly for his friends and community. As a member of Proctorville Baptist Church, a congregation he wholeheartedly embraced, he gave his time to serve them as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Royal Ambassadors Leader, Custodian, or any other capacity that he could. In the days of church directories, he committed the phone numbers of the entire membership to memory. Other churches also benefited from his labors of love. When given the opportunities to participate in overseas mission trips, he gladly accepted them and was delighted when he was presented with a chance to share his stories of adventure with someone.
With joy, he served his community as a Mason, Rotarian, and in his younger years he belonged to the Orrum High School Booster Club, Orrum Volunteer Fire Dept. and the South Robeson Rescue Unit.
Agriculture, you could say, was in his blood. His father was a hard-working farmer, and he was too. In high school, the FFA chapter elected him Chapter President his senior year. A degree in Biology from Pembroke University in 1974 further fueled his passion of growing vegetation, which was harbored by him throughout his life. However, farming was not his sole vocation. At one point he was sweet potato man; at another, he operated a cucumber market. Eventually, Lynn was voluntold to seek a more stable source of gainful employment when it was clear that a small farm wasn't going to "cut the mustard".
At this point in the late 80's he began working for the Acme Electric Corporation and did so for 20 years or so until the business said, "Adios"! Still, this man was notorious for providing garden produce to his friends and neighbors even while working a full-time factory job. Some might remember him bringing them rutabagas and turnips just because he wanted to share.
Every chance he got; he made a friend. And much like his father, rarely met a stranger. When he did find one, he did his best to figure out who you might know or were related to. He was in a league of his own when it came to those conversations. Like his mother, who was a nurse, he would drop what he was doing to help someone when there was a perceived need. All three of their children exhibited their qualities, but Lynn was the most extroverted of the group.
His friends were many and they were varied in background. He knew some for his whole life, and some were recently acquired. Regardless of the circumstances, they were loved and cherished by Lynn Floyd.
Preceding him in death are his parents, William Price Floyd and Meta Faye Floyd and his brother, Max Spurgeon Floyd of Fairmont.
He is survived by his son, William Lynn Floyd, Jr. and granddaughter, Aurelia Lynn Floyd, all of Elko, NV; his daughter, Marsha Floyd Ross (Daniel) of Fairmont, NC; his sister, Amanda Floyd Brewer (Danny) of Fairmont, NC; his ex-wife, Brenda Jackson Floyd of Fairmont, NC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
