Lloyd Roland Mercer, age 82, of Lumberton NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Lloyd was born on Thursday, September 30, 1943, to the late Theodore Mercer and Beaulah Mercer.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Mercer.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Miller Mercer; two sons, Tim Mercer of Lumberton NC and Jamie T. Mercer of Morehead City, NC; a daughter and grandson, Debra M. Abbott and Salvatore Roland Abbott of Oak Island, NC; and a host of cousins and close friends who are like family.

Lloyd retired after 35 years with Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro, NC.  He worked as a sales representative and that career involved traveling all over Robeson County and many surrounding counties that led to him knowing just about everybody everywhere.

Lloyd and Peggy bought a small house in Lumberton back in 1968, which Lloyd tripled in size over the 57 years they lived there with his own hands.

An avid carpenter, Lloyd built many buildings, projects, and crafts over the years. After retiring, he put his skills to work with Samaritans Purse helping people all over the East Coast after disaster struck.

Lloyd was a dedicated deer hunter and fisherman. He spent many an hour and many a dollar enjoying spending time in the woods and on the water with his sons, Tim and Jamie, and countless other friends that shared his same passion for the outdoors.

Lloyd was dearly loved by his family and everyone else that met him. He will be missed incredibly by his family and his ocean of friends.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2:00-3:00 PM at East Lumberton Baptist Church, 201 Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Pastor Michael Bowen officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery, 5190 N. Fayetteville Road in Lumberton, NC.
