Mr. Lloyd Dudney passed away on February 8, 2010 at Southeastern Hospice in Lumberton. He was born on May 12, 1922 in Columbus County to Troy and Louette Watts Dudney. He served in World War II in Germany under General Patton. He was injured when the Jeep he and Patton, along with several others, hit a land mine and overturned. Mr. Dudney was also in the tire business for more than forty years. He first worked for BF Goodrich before opening his own business with his wife, Eula Strickland, and three children, Linda, Willie and Gene.
Mr. Dudney never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. He had great war stories about being in France and Germany and about the soldiers that became his friends.
He loved nothing better than a family get-together and his favorite time of year was the first weekend in October, The Dudney Family Reunion. When the reunion first started 35 years ago, only his brothers and sisters and their spouses would get together on Saturday night for a fish fry. Then on Sunday all the other family members would attend the reunion for the covered dish meal and fellowship. The younger generations caught wind of the great times had on Saturday night and started crashing in on the older generation. Hence, the reason the \\"Dudney Reunion\\" is now a two-day event. Mr. Dudney and his immediate family hosted the fish fry because he enjoyed this particular event so much.
Family has always been a vital part of Mr. Dudney\\chr(39)s life and we appreciate all the prayers, words of encouragement and visits from all of our family and friends during this time of loss.
