Norfolk, VA - Lloyd Gene Dudney, born on July 8, 1951, in Whiteville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 74. A man of great warmth and charisma, Lloyd lived a full life enriched by his family, friends, and community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lloyd and Eula (Strickland) Dudney, his sister, Linda Rozier, her husband, Jeff Rosier, and his sister in law, Sylvia Dudney. Lloyd's spirit and memory live on through those he leaves behind, including his devoted husband of 27 years, Steve Rivera; his cherished daughters, Cecelia "Candi" Mathias and Amanda Dudney, along with her wife, Julie; and his beloved brother, Willie Dudney, and his partner, Leigh. He will also be missed by his two faithful companions, his dogs Gizmo and Champ, as well as a host of extended family and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Whitley Mathias, Hannah Mathias, Patrick Jr. Mathias (PJ) and fiancé Iris Huynh, Jayce Dudney, and Eloise Dudney (Ellie) who brought immense joy to his life. In addition to his husband, children and grandchildren, Gene is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Gene was a man of strong faith who never met a stranger, loved God and treasured his family above all else. He found great satisfaction in his work and spent many years in Home Repair business. Later, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethics.

Gene will be remembered for his love, kindness, unwavering devotion to his family, and the strength of his faith. His legacy lives in the lives of those he touched, and in the memories shared by his family and friends. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing that Gene is at peace and reunited with those who went before him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at New Life Metropolitan Community Church in Norfolk, Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 6:30p.m. At his request, Gene's cremains will be laid to rest in Lumberton, North Carolina, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. A graveside service will be held at Garden of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton, NC at 10:00am.

Gene's legacy of love, laughter, and service will long be remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
