SGM (Retired) Linwood Bass, born September 21, 1941, departed this life on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at age 69 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. He was the son of the late Hilton Bass and Mary Ann Ivey Bass.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife Brigitte D. Bass and their four children: Richard J. Bass of Hope Mills, Karen M. Oatman and husband Lewis of Hope Mills, Diane L. Arnette and husband Tim of Lumberton, John L. Bass and fiancée Karen Plumley of Chesapeake, VA; his sisters Carolyn Rogers and husband Leo of Wilmington, Molly Faye Foster and husband Marvin of Fairmont; ten grandchildren, Christina, Chad, Jonathan and Stephanie Oatman, Joni Britt and husband Jeremy, Danielle Arnette and fiancé Brandon Byrd, Ashley Arnette, Brandon Bass and wife Tawni, Gary Bass, Kelli Halm and husband Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Craig and Bralynne Arnette and Luke and Josiah Britt; several nieces and nephews, along with numerous family members and friends.

We are all proud of his service to country and his dedication to family. He is dearly loved by all and will be truly missed.

The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Rev. James Graham officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.
