Obituary

Dr. Ernest Linwood "Lin" Robinson, Jr., 83, of Lumberton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2017, surrounded by loving family at his residence. Lin was born in Wilmington on August 5, 1933 to the late Ernest L. Robinson, Sr. and Flossie Hewett Robinson.

After attending "Blue Heaven" in Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree, Lin earned his dental degree at Emory University and married Betty Walton. The young couple settled in Lumberton, NC where he practiced dentistry for 40 years, while raising their children.

Lin was a member of First Baptist Church in Lumberton since 1960, where he was active in many areas of service. He loved his church and served as Chairman of the Deacons for numerous terms. He was involved in many committees and was very active in the Sunday School leadership.

Lin will be fondly remembered for his love of family and friends (especially his OFF buddies), wonderful sense of humor, devotion to First Baptist Church, and involvement in many civic organizations such as the Lumberton Rotary Club, of which he was a proud member for many years. Lin loved golf and all things related to his precious Tar Heels.

In addition to his parents, Lin is preceded in death by his brother, Orville Robinson, his sister, Shirley R. Hardee, and his beloved wife of 49 years, Betty W. Robinson.

Left to share in his memory are his son, Ernest Linwood "Woody" Robinson III and wife Carmen of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Betty Lynn Robinson Schwitzgebel and husband Ted of Fayetteville, NC; his step-son, Thomas Lee Hall and wife Lisa of Shallotte, NC; and his wife of nine wonderful years, Betty Hall Robinson.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Becky Coates and daughter Dalila; Matthew and Jennifer Schwitzgebel and their children Merrick and Sloane; Stephen Schwitzgebel; Matt Yates; and Noah, Nick, and Emily Robinson.

Woody, Betty Lynn, Betty, and their families would like to thank Liberty Hospice for their wonderful support during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday, July 16, 2017, from 1:30-2:45 PM at First Baptist Church in Lumberton.

Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Dr. David Elks and Rev. David Ruth officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 602 N. Walnut Street, Lumberton, NC 28358, or to the Gibson Cancer Center, in memory of Betty W. Robinson and in honor of Betty Hall Robinson, 1200 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, NC 28358.
