Mr. George Leon Edwards, 80, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2023, at Woodhaven Nursing Center. He was born in Lumberton, NC on September 21, 1942 to the late George Washington Edwards and Mabel White.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Tom Edwards, Benny Edwards, Earl Edwards, and Albert Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Edwards of the home; his son, Jimmy Edwards (Barbara) of Lumberton, NC; his daughter, Deborah Phillips (David) of Loganville, GA; two special sisters-in-law, Linda West Haymore of Lumberton, NC and Cathy West of Raleigh, NC; two special brothers-in-law, Ronald West and Allen Wayne West, both of Rowland, NC; his grandchildren: Brittany Bethea, Tolon Clanton, Ashley Strickland, and Megan Norris; and five great-grandchildren.

In his spare time, Leon greatly enjoyed being outdoors playing golf and fishing.

A funeral service will take place at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC, on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM in the chapel as well.
