Mrs. Leitha Mae Hunt, 94, of 1896 JW Road, Fairmont, NC, was born May 14, 1923 to the late Governor Vance Jones and Louise Hardin Jones. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 20, 2018, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred McMurry Hunt; and her three brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Leitha is survived by two daughters: Paulette Hunt (Elton) of Fairmont and Sandra Strickland (Ronald) of Maxton; three sons: Ronnie (Phyllis) of Red Springs, Carey (Diane) of Pawleys Island, SC, and Randy of the home. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Leitha was active at Piney Grove Baptist Church, having served more than 50 years in a variety of roles to include Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader, Choir Director, and working with the young people of the church. Though she never preached a sermon from a pulpit, she made certain that her children and everyone she came in contact with knew about God and His Son.

Mrs. Leitha enjoyed cooking and working in her yard, raking, and tending to her flowers. She lived independently as long as she could and will be greatly missed by her family and community.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 3 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Howard Jacobs, Elton B. Hunt, and Perry Roberts officiating.

Burial will follow in Piney Grove Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church from 1:30 PM-3:00 PM.
