Plant
Oct 7, 1949 — Jun 20, 2024
Aberdeen
Kathryn Grace Chicelli Plant, 74, passed away on June 20, 2024 peacefully at home in Aberdeen after a brief illness.
She is now reunited with the love of her life, the late William "Bill" Plant, as well as her late parents, Antonio & Molly Chicelli.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Anne Cribbs of Pinehurst, and brothers, Anthony Chicelli of Wilmington, David Chicelli (her caregiver for many years) of Aberdeen, and Daniel Chicelli (Robin) of Hickory. She was a very proud and loving aunt, doting on her nieces and nephews: Russ, Toni, Stacey, Michael, Molly, Jacob, Molly, Katie, Oliver, and Garrettson. She was also a devoted friend.
Kathy was born October 7, 1949 to the late Antonio Chicelli and Molly Grace Nance Chicelli in Plattsburgh, New York. They later moved to Lumberton, North Carolina where she grew up.
Kathy was a very bright student with a zest for knowledge. She attended NC Governor's School and was valedictorian of the Lumberton Senior High School Class of 1967. She graduated Cum Laude from UNC Greensboro in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts and from North Carolina State University in 1975 with a Master of Education.
Kathy worked as a Proofreader at the Robesonian. After college, she taught math at Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh and accompanied students to Italy where her father's family originated. She later worked in the Credit Union as a manager at Burroughs Wellcome. She finished her career in Atlanta as president of the Georgia Peach Credit Union, later known as The Southern Federal Credit Union. She happily retired after a long, successful career in 2012 and moved to Southport, NC to be closer to her family. She was so happy to be living on the coast and enjoyed so many sunsets, seafood, ocean views, and new friends.
Kathy loved to travel and cruise, and took many memorable trips to Italy, Nova Scotia, Maine, and New York City to name a few. She loved to reminisce on her trip to Hawaii with her late husband Bill, as well as days on the lake on their boat. She was incredibly smart and a wiz at Jeopardy. She beat everyone at Scrabble, Wordle, and Words with Friends. She enjoyed reading and playing Canasta. She loved the Wolfpack and enjoyed cheering them on, especially this basketball season.
