Joyce Miriam Thompson Rice, age 79, of Lumberton, NC died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was born in Robeson County, NC on September 15, 1930 to Henry Frank Thompson and Sallie Ann Phillips Thompson. She did clerical work for United Insurance Company.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Thompson, Lester Thompson and Franklin Thompson and two sisters, Sadie Davis and Sarah Kaukola.

Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband, Craven Rice of the home; one son, Chris Rice and wife, Terri Lynn of Lumberton, NC; one daughter, Myra Rice Musselwhite of Lumberton, NC; one brother, Jimmy Thompson of Durham, NC; one sister, Violet Crawford of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and three grandchildren, Lindsay Musselwhite, Sheridan Rice and Dylan Musselwhite.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church in Lumberton with Rev. Mark Meadows and Ron Murcock. Burial will follow in the Phillips Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday evening, April 9, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton.
