Obituary

EVERGREEN - Mrs. Joyce McCormick Clyburn, age 85, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C.  She was born February 15, 1934 to the late John Sampson McCormick and the late Ora Hill McCormick and preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Robert Lee (Bobby) Clyburn.

Joyce was loving mother to 4 children and her lifelong interest, priorities and loves included both family and friends, her role as home-maker, gardener, florist, and seamstress. She enjoyed searching for treasure with her metal detector, time with friends square dancing, catching fish, and hours upon hours in her flower gardens. Joyce took time with children, in her home and church. As a leader in 4H, she led and hosted local meetings and traveled to summer camps with the 4Hers. She also had a leadership role with the girls in Boardman Baptist Church, as one of the leaders of the "Acteen" program. Young at heart, she spent many summer nights watching the Braves play baseball on T.V. She was a member of Proctorville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School.

In churches she attended earlier, Joyce created beautiful arrangements that often include items from her farm, like peacock feathers and home-grown flowers, combined with her special touch to promote the beauty in Gods creations, yielded simple yet elegant enhancements to the meeting place or setting. Her artistic gifts were well known and appreciated by Christian brothers and sisters, in worship services and at fellowship events. Joyce was well known as loving, thoughtful, respectful and kind.  As both mother and Registered Nurse, she was a lifelong caregiver.  In her longest nursing role, Joyce served as the Head Nurse for the Robeson County T.B Clinic until retiring in 1998. She was known by her family to never miss a birthday, remembering all by sending a card, every birthday, for her children and grandchildren. And the card always contained a special encouraging message to that family member.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Earl, John, Milton and Wade McCormick and a sister, Betty Crawford.

She leaves behind many to cherish her memories and include her children, Robert M. Clyburn (Kris), of the home, Jan Strickland (Tim) of Evergreen, Jon Clyburn (Theresa) of Georgetown, TX and Lynne Livingston (Billy Ray) of Evergreen; her brother, Henry A. McCormick (Faye) of Smithfield, VA and her sister, Cammie Callaway of Raeford; thirteen grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Ashley, Melissa, Chase, Heather, Deborah, Cayln, Christie, Jason, Jonathan, Kathryn and Jared, and three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Emma, and Archie.

Visitation with the family is Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 P.M., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Floyd Funeral Services, Inc., 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont, Internment at the Clyburn Family Cemetery in Boardman, reception afterward for friends and family at Joyce's home.
