Mrs. Joyce Covington Barnes, 89 of Lumberton, NC, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center in Lumberton, NC. She was born in Robeson County, NC on February 19, 1934 to the late Roy Hoyle Covington and Foy West Covington.  She assisted her late husband, Max, with a large farming operation and also did clerical work.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Barnes, her brother, James Roy "Jimmy" Covington, and her nephew, Daryl R. Covington.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Johnson and husband Mitchell ("Mickey") Johnson of Eastover, NC; her grandchildren, Maxanne Kriner of Fayetteville, NC and Candice Whitten (Chris) of Dallas, NC; her great-grandchildren: Dylan Byers, Cameron Byers, Zoey Whitten, and Braelyn Whitten; her sister-in-law, Beronica Covington, and her niece, Heidi Smith (Hadley), both of Alabama.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. LeRoy Burke officiating.
