Mr. Joseph Forman Thorndyke, Jr., age 96 of Lumberton, NC, died Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mr. Thorndyke was a son of the late Joseph F. Thorndyke, Sr. and Vivian Lamb Thorndyke. He was preceded in death by his wife Frankie Sutton Thorndyke and several brothers and sisters. He was a retired Boiler Inspector  with  the N.C. Department of Labor.

Surviving are three sons: James Thorndyke of Little River, SC, Sammy Thorndyke and wife Laura of Orrum, Donald Thorndyke and wife Frances of Lumberton; a daughter, Kathy Collins and husband Lenwood of Orrum; two brothers, Ed Thorndyke of Tar Heel and Luke Thorndyke of Lumberton; four sisters: Lib Nye, Kellan Byrd, Veila Nye, and Shelia Thorndyke, all of Lumberton; along with 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday, July 7, 2019, from 2:30-4:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM with Rev. Jeff Blackburn and Rev. Johnny Ivey officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Faith Mausoleum in Lumberton.
