Joseph Preston Phillips, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 05, 2014 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. He was born in Robeson County, NC on December 21, 1929 to the late Hughie Sanford Phillips and the late Effie Downing Phillips. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from security for Security Forces Company. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Juanita A. Phillips of the home; sons, Joseph Preston Phillips II of Lumberton and Steven Allen Phillips of Bladenboro; daughters, Beth Lewis and husband, Gary of Lumberton and Bonita Phillips of St. Pauls; a sister, Cathy Suggs of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren, Alexander Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Seth Lewis, and Nicholas Phillips. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM at East Lumberton Church of God with Dr. Bruce Brumfield and Rev. L.F. Hatchell officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
