John Lester Rowland, 86, was called home on March 1, 2009, after a brief stay at Hospice House. Prior to his stay at Hospice House he resided with his wife at Hermitage Retirement Center in Lumberton, NC. He retired after many years of service from Thurston Motor Lines and was also a life long farmer.

He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Melba L. Rowland. Son, Charles L. Rowland. Daughter, Edith R. Baxley and husband Fletcher. Granddaughters, Kathy Baxley and Sherry Edwards. Grandson, Frankie Baxley and wife Lisa. Great-grandchildren, Benji Edwards, Alana Baxley and Sydni Baxley, all of Lumberton. Brother, Daniel Rowland of Wilmington, sisters, Loretta Barnhill of Dunn and Lillian Edwards of Fayetteville.

The memorial services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Floyd Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kenneth Mark Hall and Dr. Allen Admire officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 7 to 9 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.
