John Tyson Mills' Obituary
Mr. John T. Mills, age 93, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, NC.
Mr. Mills was born December 3, 1924 in Anson County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Cody Mills and Sarah Emma Parker Mills; his wife, Dorothy Tedder Mills; a brother, Edgar Coy Mills; and two sisters: Allie Mae Sigmon and Glendrid Pauline Kasprzak.
John entered Merchant Marines at the age of eighteen. He was a graduate of NC State College. He began his teaching career at Fairgrove High School as the Agriculture Teacher in 1952 until 1972. He was employed by the Board of Education from 1972-1977. He then taught at Magnolia School until he retired from teaching in 1986. He was employed by H&R Block for twenty-four years. John was a member of the Rotary Club, Woodman and the American Legion, also the Lions Club and the Square Dancing group of Marietta.
He is survived by a son, Franklin Williams of West Columbia, SC; three daughters: Caroline Mills Hudnell of Greenville, NC, Pattie Mills Guyton (Andy) of Fairmont, and Brenda Campbell (Roland) of Lexington, NC; three sisters: Emma Sherrill of Sneads Ferry, NC, Carolyn Edwards of Southern Pines, and Rebecca Mills Creckmore, NC; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, September 6, 2018, from 1:30-3:00 PM at Baltimore Baptist Church in Fairmont.
Following the visitation, funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM at Baltimore Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tyner officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baltimore Baptist Church, 171 Baltimore Church Rd., Fairmont, NC 28340, or Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Dr., Lumberton, NC 28358.
