John Rowland Carroll, Sr., age 89, of Lumberton, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Butters, NC on December 12, 1936 to the late Henry Alton and Margaret Darden Carroll.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Clara Simmons Carroll; one sister, Nancy Carroll Lancaster.

John is survived by his three sons, John R. Carroll, Jr. (Betty), Al Carroll and Carey Carroll, all of Lumberton; two grandsons, Jason Carroll (Ashley) and David Carroll (Janell); four great-grandchildren, Jaylah Carroll, Riley Carroll, Dawson Carroll and Brayden Carroll; one great-great grandchild, Brinley Carroll; and his special caregivers: Carol Bean, Betty Mason, Charlene Powers, and Lynn Calhoun.

John was an avid lover of fishing and spending time on the water. He was the business owner of Carrolls Painting & Decorating and also worked at Scarborough's Builders Supply and Lowes.

A time of visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 6:00-8:00PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Godwin Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Carroll, Rev. LeDon Barnhill and Rev. Matthew Deutschlander officiating.  Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
