John Robert (Robert) Burns, Jr., of Lumberton, NC, died Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Born December 15, 1954, Robert was the oldest child of Carlene Kinlaw Burns and John Robert (Bobby) Burns.

He is survived by his beloved, Debbie Hammonds, and sisters, Beth Ward (Ricky) and Sarah Kelly Burns (John).

He is preceded in death by a sister, Susan Burns and brother, Clegg Burns.

Many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends will miss Robert. He was especially proud of his precious Debbie's children Ronald Locklear (Rena), Brian Locklear (Tiffany), April Brayboy (Buddy), and Kevin Locklear; grandchildren Daniel, Shawn, Gabriel, Jaydon, Hailey, Leanna, Owen, Evan, Josie and Dylan. Robert was a longtime employee of Lumberton Housing Authority.

An avid outdoorsman, Robert loved horseback riding at Uwharrie, fishing on the Cape Fear River, and dove hunting on the "Sally Farm," which he cleared alongside his father and brother. He also loved bluegrass music, history, and cooking and eating good food.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC, the Rev. Danny McLamb officiating.
