Jody Lynne
Barnes Davis
Oct 19, 1955 — Apr 17, 2026
Lumberton
Mrs. Jody Lynne Barnes Davis, age 70, of Lumberton, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born on October 19, 1955 to the late Joseph Cecil Barnes, Sr. and Ida Jane Mayes Barnes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Michael Barnes.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Michael Davis, of the home; her two daughters, Gillian "Gigi" Edens (Michael Guderian) of Wilmington and Heather Alina Davis, of the home; her three brothers, twins, Peter Allen Barnes (Denise) of Goose Creek, SC and Joseph Cecil Barnes, Jr. of Lumberton and Richard Keith Barnes (Debra) of Aiken, SC; one grandson, Kaeden Asher Edens of Wilmington; two step-grandsons, Derrick Anthony Guderian of Leland and Shawn Alexander Guderian (Lauren) of Wilmington; two great step-grandchildren, Flash Sawyer Guderian and Samson Wade Guderian and three very special friends and chosen family members, Michael S. Britt, Gabby Montiell of Lumberton and Linda Sanderson of Pembroke. She also leaves behind four sisters-in-law and their husbands, four nieces, nine nephews, 10 grandnieces, and 17 grandnephews.
Jody was truly one of a kind and loved by everyone. She spent her life making the world a more beautiful place for everyone. She was a talented singer and songwriter who would show up to churches, birthday parties, weddings, picnics, and wherever else she was welcome, carrying a guitar and a voice that were as big as she was to share her talents. She played piano at her home church and even taught herself to play the drums a little at a monthly jam session with her longtime band mates. Jody was a sketch artist, a painter, and a flower arranger. She crocheted and taught macramé and painting classes at a family ceramic shop. She was an avid reader who passed down both her love of books and her habit of hoarding them down to her daughters.
The most beautiful thing Jody did was love the people around her as much as they loved her. She was such a tiny person with such a huge heart. She was everyone's confidante who listened with patience and love and without judgment. She wasn't all sunflowers and sugar, though; she was a bit sassy and would give you the advice you needed, not the advice you wanted, and she would hold your hand and gently stroke your forehead the whole time. Still, there was nothing better than a hug from Jody. She would wrap her arms around you and squeeze with her whole heart and soul until all felt right with the world.
The absolute best talent Jody had, though, was being a mother and a mother figure. She loved and sacrificed so much for both of her girls, yet still had enough love left to open her arms and welcome in other people who needed just that little extra bit of motherly love. She deserved every ounce of the love they gave to her in return.
The world will always be a little brighter for the love she left for us to carry on in all of our hearts, and a little darker now for having lost that sassy, mischievous twinkle in her beautiful green eyes.
