Joan Brown Lassiter, age 69, of Lumberton, NC passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. She was born in Melbourne, FL on October 13, 1945 to the late Cephas and Lillie Weatherford Brown. She previously worked in insurance. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Frankie Brown. Mrs. Lassiter is survived by her husband, C. Michael Lassiter of the home; sons, Lieutenant Colonel Roy Bacot and wife, Alana of Enid, OK and Hank Bacot and wife, Brandy of Lumberton; a daughter, Melody Britt and husband, Keith of Lumberton; a sister, Elaine Allen; and four grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Little officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 East 8th Street, Lumberton, NC 28358.
