Jetter Wilton
Lewis, Jr.
Feb 1, 1945 — Nov 1, 2025
Fairmont
Jetter Lewis was born February 1, 1945, to Jetter Wilton Lewis and Mary Winton Brady Lewis. Jetter passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Whiteville on November 1st, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stan Lewis; his sister, Ann Bessent-Bloust; and his niece, Mariellen Bessent. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Carol Anne Lewis; his son, Steve Lewis (Cindy); and his daughter, Marianne Leggett (Kenny). In addition, he is survived by 4 grandchildren, Kiley Grace (Zach), Layne Dupree (Dawson), Jett Lewis, and Slate Lewis; as well as his great-grandson, Harrison Grace; and his Lewis-Brady Builders Supply, Inc. family.
Jetter's journey began as a 1963 graduate of Fairmont High School, and from there he embarked on a lifelong career with Lewis-Brady Builders Supply, Inc. His dedication and hard work led him to become the owner in 1976. Jetter's love for his business was unparalleled; he worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk, building the company alongside his right-hand man, Wayne Turner (Drysdale), and his wife, Vickie Turner. His legacy of hard work, loyalty, and determination will live on through his children and the employee family he leaves behind.
Jetter had a passion for the outdoors and made it his mission to teach young people the importance of hunting, fishing, and conservation. He was an avid hunter, and deep-sea fisherman. He was especially proud of his tree farms and spent some of his happiest times at "The Bay" on his trackhoe.
Jetter believed deeply in the value of hard work and helping others. He often said that "a hard day's work never hurt anybody" and that anyone could achieve their dreams through effort and perseverance. He cared about people and took a genuine interest in their lives. Jetter believed that everyone deserved a chance at home ownership, even if it did not look possible on paper. He extended credit to contractors and families when others would not, giving them opportunities to succeed.
He will be remembered by many for his generosity, his honesty, and his unwavering belief in people –qualities that left a lasting mark on his community, his family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
