Retired director of maintenance for Lee County schools, Jerry Pittman's love for life didn't come to an end with his death. Jerry passed away on October 1st, 2021, at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with dementia, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Jerry began working in construction and remodeling at a young age. He continued this work when he began a career with the Public Schools in North Carolina serving various school systems before becoming the Director in Lee County. He retired with more than 30 years of service.

Jerry enjoyed the simple things in life. A peaceful morning in the woods followed by a quiet evening on the water would normally do the trick. Every Sunday afternoon, you could bet you'd find Jerry in his recliner rooting for Dale Earnhardt, or whoever else he had drawn in that week's race pull. His big smile was contagious, and nothing made him smile bigger than family.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Rowland and Dessie Mae Pittman; four brothers, Worth, Junior, Emory and Alfred.

He is survived by his siblings, Margaret Stephens, Kenneth Pittman, Louise Britt and Murray Pittman; daughters, Melissa and Brandie; sons, Jerry Jr. and Jacob; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 5 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Singletary Baptist Church, Pastor Joshua West and Pastor Rodney Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
