Mrs. Jean Snipes Matthews, age 83 of Fairmont, NC passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC. Mrs. Matthews was born March 5, 1941 in Robeson County to the late Oswell Snipes and the late Mildred Parker Snipes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Coleman Matthews; two sisters, Ramona Snipes Davis and Joyce Snipes Hedgpeth.

Ms. Jean worked as a secretary with the public schools of Robeson County for many years.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by two daughters, Lisa Anne Matthews, of the home and Lynn Matthews-Lawson of Lumberton, NC; one grandson, Brady Lawson.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 12 noon at Floyd Funeral Services Chapel, 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont, NC. A memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel at 1:00PM with Pastor Mitch Tyner officiating.

Interment will follow in Floyd Memorial Cemetery across from the funeral home.
