Jannie Gray Smith West, 76, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. She was born August 7, 1940 in Bladen County to the late Claude & Gladys Smith. She retired from Gerber and she will be remembered for her many years of teaching in the Public Schools of Robeson County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers: Dubell Smith, Troy Smith, Bill Smith, Mitchell Smith, Leonard Smith, John Smith, and Jeffery Smith; and one sister, Mabel Horne.

She is survived by her husband, Otis R. West of the home; three daughters: Theressa Freeman and husband John of Lumberton, Marie J. Rogers and husband Wilson of Clayton, and Tammy S. Anderson and husband Daniel of Lumberton; eight grandchildren: Ethan Freeman, Jaimee Conner, Jessica Rogers, Austin Conner, Abby Conner, Justin Rogers, Curtis West, and Samantha Connell; one brother, Buddy Smith; and four sisters: Geraldine Linkous, Katie Smith, Juanita Dawson, and Ernestine Davis.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Gardens of Faith Cemetery with Rev. Leslie Sessoms and Rev. Odell Peterson officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the graveside.
