Ms. Janie Ruth Fowler Hardin, age 88, of Elizabethtown, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family at home on Thursday, July 1, 2021. She was born in McCaysville, GA on April 10, 1933 to the late Harley T. Fowler and the late Ina Mae Stanley Fowler.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gena Hardin; two brothers, Harley Dan Fowler and Johnny Fowler; and two sisters, Lena Ray King and Mary Lou Chambers.

She is survived by two sons, Wallace Craig Hardin (René Nye) of Selma, NC and Jay Hardin (Vicki Morton) of Pawley's Island, SC; a daughter, Lynda Jane Hardin of Elizabethtown, NC; six grandchildren: Charlee Lynne Wilkes (Nathan) of Texas, Ryon King of Elizabethtown, NC, Craig Nye Hardin (Morgan) of Benson, NC, Tyler Gena Hardin (Christina) of Princeton, NC, Jessica Hardin Pressly (Justin) of Morehead City, NC, and Rachel Blaire Hardin of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Buster Fowler of Georgia; and a sister, JoAnn Henry (Alvin) of Georgia.

Janie enjoyed baking bread and having meals with her family every chance she could. She also loved her church family and her fur babies, Sandy & Willow. The family would like to extend their gratitude to her caregiver, Brenda Kelly, a.k.a. "Sassy"/"Mama Kelly", and her hospice nurses, Amy & Gloria, for all of their care and compassion.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8414 S. Creek Road in Orrum, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ken Griswald officiating.

A private family burial will follow in the church's cemetery.
