Jane George Townsend, 80, wife of the late James Neil Townsend, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at The Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Lexington, SC on March 20, 1936 to Francis and Eula Mae George and graduated from Columbia College in 1957.

Surviving are her children: Fran (Gerald), Amy, Jim (Heather) and Jeff (Jamie); six grandchildren: Mary Frances Canady, Lucy Hammock, Jayne and Catherine Dawson, William and Madeline Townsend; two great-grandchildren: Christopher and Matthew Hammock; her brother, Samuel B. George; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was a member of the Entré Nous Book Club, Gardinettes Garden Club and loved playing bridge with her friends. Jane traveled the world with Mary Stevens and never saw a museum or a cathedral she didn't like.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 13, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton with visitation immediately after.
