James Douglas Wellington, age 55, of Lumberton, NC died on Monday, August 17, 2015. He was born in Robeson County, NC on February 23, 1960 to the late John Thomas Wellington and the late Nell Boone Crofton Wellington. James, better known as Jamie, worked several years for the Robeson County Water Department. Jamie loved the country lifestyle and lived it day in and day out with the joy of having his two children as neighbors. He enjoyed hunting, playing the drums with his fellow band members, swimming with his grandchildren, and popping open his ice cold Budweiser. Jamie was known for his laid back personality, humorous jokes, and kind heart. Jamie was both well known and well loved by many. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Joyce Powers Wellington, and a brother, Johnny Wellington. Mr. Wellington is survived by a son James Austin Wellington (Athlynne Burbank) of Lumberton; a daughter, Heather Zamora (Jacob) of Lumberton; sisters, Ginny Webb (Bill) of Williamston and Georgia Stephenson (Jimmy) of Angier; a step-brother, Keith Richard Powers (Priscilla) of Lumberton; his fiancé, Cindy Lawson-Page of Lumberton; two grandchildren, Arya Wellington and Olivia Zamora; a sister-in-law, Stephanie Wellington; and several nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 5:00 PM at Lumberton First Baptist Church in the Cherry Fellowship Hall. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Lumberton First Baptist Church with Dr. David Elks and Rev. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be made St. Jude Children's Hospital, 62 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of ones choice.
