James Claude Singletary, age 87, died on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. He was born on February 21, 1922, the son of James Clinton Singletary and Delia Baxley Singletary. He served in the United States Army and worked as a farmer.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella B. Sessoms and Helen Lyde.

Mr. Singletary is survived by a special niece and nephew, Rose and Gary Davenport and Earl Singletary; and six sisters, Estella Singletary of Lumberton, NC, Betty H. Edwards of Whiteville, NC, Mae Wilkes of Winston-Salem, NC, Opal Bass of Hickory, NC, Loraine Layton of High Point, NC and Norma Britt of Parkton, NC.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Dr. Bobby Carden officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E 5th Street. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
