James Ronnie Hunt, 73, of Pembroke, NC, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC, surrounded by his loving family.
Ronnie lived his life with great enthusiasm, warmth, and purpose.
Ronnie was born on November 21, 1952, in Lumberton, NC, to the late Preather and Ester Mae Hunt. He graduated from Fairmont High School and quickly entered the restaurant industry at the young age of 16. What began as a teenage job blossomed into a distinguished, lifelong career.
Ronnie dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the Burger King franchise. Through an exceptional work ethic, unwavering dedication, and natural leadership, he steadily rose through the ranks to become an esteemed Area Supervisor. Throughout his decades of service, he earned the deep respect and admiration of colleagues, franchise owners, and lifelong friends. He retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance, integrity, and mentorship.
An avid golfer, retirement brought Ronnie the gift of extra time to enjoy the game he loved. He was a familiar and welcome face on local courses, where he shared countless rounds, stories, and laughs with his golf buddies. In his earlier years, he was also a passionate league bowler.
Ronnie possessed a deep love for travel, especially cruising. His adventures took him to breathtaking destinations, from the stunning glaciers of Alaska to the sunny shores of the Caribbean. Among his many travels, his absolute favorite voyages were those spent making memories alongside his brother, Randy.
Above all his achievements, Ronnie's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend
Ronnie loved each of his grandchildren deeply and treasured every moment with them. He held an exceptionally close bond with Coty, Jacob, and Tyler, who were a constant source of immense pride and happiness in his life.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Benny Turner, Kenneth Hunt, Randy Hunt, and twin brothers, Terry and Jerry Hunt; and his sisters, Elsie Matzke and Mary Lee Mauney.
He leaves behind a beautiful family to cherish his memory - his loving wife of 45 years, Debbie Hunt; his children, Stephanie Bryan (Michael) of Bladenboro, Gloria Hunt of Portsmouth, VA, Mary Kay Locklear (Kernice) of Maxton, and Jonathan Brady (Jennifer) of St. Pauls; his brothers: Gregory Hunt of Fairmont and Rickie Hunt (Trema) of Bladenboro; his sisters: Debbie Troutman (Richard) of Lumberton, Lora Hunt of Pembroke, Patricia Hunt of Fairmont, Edith Hunt of Fairmont, Vickie Jacobs (Ricky) of Fairmont, and Jeanette Deese of Lincolnton; his grandchildren & great-grandchildren: Olivia (Tom), Coty (McKenzie), Cadee, Jacob, Tyler, Hunt, Alex, Allana, Cayson, and Addison; and two great-grandchildren.
