Mr. James Barfield Prevatte, age 103, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. He was born in Robeson County, NC to the late Walter & Annie Foy Prevatte. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He will be most remembered for his many years as owner-operator of Prevatte Auto Supply and Prevatte Auto Parts.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lewis Prevatte; a grandson, Eric Kent Prevatte; and one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his son, Eric Prevatte and wife Jeannette; his grandchildren, Patrick Prevatte and Daphne Prevatte; 7 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Prevatte Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Evers officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
