Obituary

James Musselwhite, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 5, 2026.

Born on June 3, 1944, in Lumberton, NC, James was the cherished son of the late Nash Zach Musselwhite and Leila Mae Hendren Musselwhite. He is predeceased by his dear family member, Dana Musselwhite-Tart.

A man of remarkable character and warmth, James will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and warm smile that could light up any room. He was a unique individual whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James was a devoted father to his children, Cindy Lusardi, Gina Musselwhite, and Jamie Musselwhite. He was a proud grandfather to Hallie Musselwhite, Macie Musselwhite, Amanda Lusardi, Austin Tart, and Kendell Tart Morgan Musselwhite-Hinnant. Additionally, he was blessed with two great-grandchildren.  James is also survived by his siblings, Nash "Buddy" Musselwhite, Betty Georges, and Diane Brigman.

His professional life was marked by dedication and hard work, as he owned and operated SouthEastern Concrete from 1984 until 2026. James was not only an astute businessman but also a passionate enthusiast of life's pleasures. His love for fishing led him on adventures across the seas, including memorable trips to the Bahamas with friends. His admiration for cars was evident in his pride and joy, a beautifully restored 1961 Corvette. Known for his active lifestyle, James also cherished dancing to his favorite beach music, where he would often be found on the dance floor, living life to the fullest.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the team of CNAs who provided James with exceptional care, ensuring that his final days were comfortable and filled with love. Additionally, they would like to express their appreciation to the compassionate staff at Gentiva, whose kindness and support were invaluable during this time.

In keeping with James's wishes, a private funeral service will be held to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization that held a special place in his heart.

James Musselwhite's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His laughter, love, and the countless memories he created will be cherished forever. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love that he so generously gave to others.
