Mr. James Ray Lawson, age 90, of Fairmont, NC passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Lower Cape Fear Life Care, Whiteville, NC.

Mr. Lawson was born October 10, 1935 in Floyd County, Va. to the late George Lawson and the late Dissie Bower Lawson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Frances Wood Lawson; a daughter, Rachel Strickland; a brother, CB Lawson; a sister, Ruby England; two sons-in-laws, Danny Huddleston and Bob Strickland.

He is survived by four daughters, Ruth Simpson (Steve) of New Bern, NC, Lois Huddleston of Roanoke, VA, Esther Callahan and (Ronnie) of Orrum, NC, and Martha Coleman (Gentry) of Cerro Gordo, NC; and nine grandchildren, Rebekah Lockhart (Joey), Matthew Simpson (Lexi), Stacy Howell (Jared), Erin, and Renee Huddleston, Austin Callahan (Madilyn), Laken, and Ashton Callahan, and Kacie Coleman; four great-grandchildren, Haven, Eleanor, Isaac and Weston; a sister, Genevieve Craddock of Martinsville, Va., and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday March 31, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Funeral Services, Inc., 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont.

A Funeral service will be held Wednesday April 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 416 S. Main Street, Fairmont with Pastor Donnie Rabon officiating. Burial will follow in Floyd Memorial Cemetery, 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont.
