James "Sonny" Sampson, Jr; age 74, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at McLeod Medical Center in Florence, SC. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:00PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Wiley Jones and Howard Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening February 6, 2015 from 6-8PM at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont. Mr. Sampson was born November 25, 1940 in Robeson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sampson, Sr. and Quessie Hammonds Sampson; a sister, Ruby Neal Sampson. Mr. Sampson was a devoted member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, he served on the LRDA Board, and was employed by NC Department of Agriculture. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Mary "Pearl" Sampson of the home; two daughters, Twyla Page and husband Jamie of Fairmont and Erica Setzer and husband Mike of Lumberton; three brothers, Gurney Sampson of Fairmont, Larry Sampson and wife Rosalyn, and Terry Sampson and wife Kathy all of Rowland; five sisters, Jeanette "Jan" Smith and husband Billy, and Shelby Mitchell and husband Bobby all of Rowland, Peggy Escobar (Rudy (D)) of Fairmont, Doris B. Sampson (Ron) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Pandora Barbour and husband Joey of Clayton; four grandchildren, Kane Banner, Sayvon Sampson, William "Koby" Sampson and Theophilus Setzer.
