James \\"Jimmy\\" Wilbur Hedgpeth, age 78, died on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. James was a retired banker. He was the recipient of the award \\"The Order of the Long Leaf Pine\\" presented to him by Gov. James B. Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus H. and Cordelia A. Hedgpeth; a son, Jason Allen Hedgpeth; two brothers, Kenneth and Lynn Hedgpeth; and a sister, Sarah Tolar.

Mr. Hedgpeth is survived by his wife, Linda Allen Hedgpeth of the home; a daughter, Fonda Worthington and husband Randall of Surf City, SC; a son, James Hedgpeth, II of Lumberton, NC; a brother, Wayne Hedgpeth and wife Johnsie of Lumberton, NC; a sister, Nita Stephens and husband George of Fairmont, NC; and two grandchildren, Dr. Leslie Singer and husband Scott of Cary, NC and James Cole Hedgpeth of VA.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Godwin Heights Baptist Church in Lumberton with Rev. David Holloway and Rev. Nash Odom officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, from 1:30-2:45 PM prior to the services at Godwin Heights Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Godwin Heights Baptist Church, 704 Godwin Avenue, Lumberton, NC 28358.
