James William Greenwood, 73, of Lumberton, NC, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, September 23, 2022. He was born on July 21, 1949, in Robeson County.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Cribb; his beloved daughter, Jodie Greenwood Gurganus; his grandparents, Joseph and Pennie McLeod; his sister, Helen Locklear; his aunts, Christine McLeod and Darlene Boone; and his grandson, Jason Sykes.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vivian Greenwood of Lumberton, NC; his daughters, Jamie Greenwood Parker, Myrtle Beach, SC, Karol Sykes and Lisa Steffes, both of Lumberton, NC, Sandra Read (Kevin) of Fayetteville, NC, and Becky Roberts (Colon) of Tar Heel, NC; one son, Philip Steffes (Hildegardo) of Charlotte, NC; and his son-in-law, Clark Gurganus of Lumberton, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Miller, his niece, Penny, and his great-nephew, Jordan Miller, all of Lumberton, NC, and his brothers: Frances "Buddy" Cribb (Joyce) of Lumberton, NC, Paul Cribb of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Johnny Cribb and Ken Cribb, both of  N. Myrtle Beach, SC. James also leaves behind to cherish his memory 5 grandsons: James Steffes, Parker Coleman, Lucas McNeill, Alex Phelps, and Brandyn Steffes; 5 granddaughters: Megan Curry, Erica Walters, Toni Rising, Tyler Strickland, and Elizabeth Lawson; as well as 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Wendy, who never left his side.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time spent at the beach and on the ocean. He loved nothing more than to take his grandsons fishing and netting. He loved his church and the fellowship he found at East Lumberton Church of God

The family wishes to thank Steve Miller, Penny Miller, and Jordan Miller for the care they gave during his illness. He was forever grateful for them and loved them very much.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 PM at East Lumberton Church of God, 100 Dresden Avenue in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tim Lewis and Rev. Bruce Brumfield officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
