Mr. James Franklin "Big Boy" Herring, age 71, formerly of Bo Tuck Road, Ocean Isle, NC, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. During his illness, he consistently reminded his family he has a full and happy life, surrounded by all the things he loved: church, family, fishing, sports, cooking and sharing takes of his mischievous childhood. He always had a smile for everyone, a kind word and a little joke. Described by others as "A Celebration of Life" Service will be held on July 13, 2013 at 1:00PM at Old Shallotte Baptist Church, 394 Longwood Road, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, 28469, officiating by Rev. Lundis Lancaster. We would like to express thanks and gratitude to all friends and family who visited, called, and sent cards over the last few months. A warm and heartfelt thanks for the staff of Community Hospice and Southeastern Hospice House for giving support, comfort, and care. Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Herring; his mother, Fannie Mae Herring; his sister, Nancy Starnes and his brother-in-law, Edward Scoggins. He is survived by his wife, Janice Herring; daughters, Michelle Floyd, Robbieshane Britt and husband, Alan, and Victoria Herring, all of Lumberton; step-children, Debbie Croom of Fayetteville and Jimmy Allen of Bunnlevel; sister, Brenda Scoggins of Lumberton; brother, Joseph Herring and wife, Lonna of Savannah, GA; sister, Kathy Walters and husband, Terry of Sunset Beach; brother-in-law, Mike Starnes of Lumberton; grandchildren, Kayla Herring, Cameron Floyd and Kaitlyn Britt and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
