James David "JD" McCormick, age 86, of Lumberton, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2026. He was born in Lumberton on August 23, 1940.

Throughout his life, JD worked at a variety of jobs, but he was best known as a daycare and florist owner as well as a skilled carpenter and handyman who enjoyed taking on projects and working with his hands. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Beadia McCormick; his brothers: Franklin, Gradis, and Robert; and sister, Doris.

JD is survived by his wife, Veron McCormick; his stepchildren: Cynthia Pittman (Ronald) and George Hyatt (Jeanann); his grandchildren: Alisha, Ron, Jennifer, Katie, Abigail, Sam Isaac, and Isabella; and his sister, Nancy Lovette.

A lifelong member of East Lumberton Church of God, JD loved attending church and placing God above everything else in his life. He treasured fellowship with his fellow Christians and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His faith, kindness, and willingness to help will be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 2:00-3:00 PM at East Lumberton Church of God, 100 Dresden Avenue in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM.
