J.P. Strickland, Jr., age 84, of Fairmont, NC, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He was born May 17, 1936.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.P. Strickland, Sr. and Lula Lovette; his wife, Vernon Laura Miller Strickland; two sons, T.J. Snipes and Terry Wayne Strickland; a daughter, Carolyn Snipes; a brother, Jimmy Strickland; and a sister, Margaret Masters.

He is survived by two sons, Billy Strickland (Sara) of Lumberton, NC and Larry Wayne Strickland of Fairmont, NC; six daughters: Peggy Ivey of Lumberton, NC, Betty Ivey (Stephen) of Fairmont, NC, Kathy Cooper (Jerry) of Mullins, SC, Cynthia Johnson (David) of Marietta, NC, Gloria Andrews (Jeff) of Fairmont, NC, and Jackie Strickland, also of Fairmont, NC; one brother, Johnny Strickland of Louisville, KY; four sisters: Ann King of Richmond, KY, Mary Jane Ivey of Proctorville, NC, Dorothy Phillips of San Antonio, TX, and Patricia Packer of Elizabethtown, NC; along with 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at 2:oo PM at Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont, NC with Rev. Bobby Strickland officiating.
