Ida Rose Walters Mayes, age 75, of Lumberton, NC died at her residence on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. She was born in Robeson County, NC on August 30, 1935 to the late Etheridge Walters and Polly Lee Walters. She previously worked as a flat knitter for the Outer Banks Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of fifty-six years, James Mayes.

Mrs. Mayes is survived by three sons, Donald Mayes and wife Lynn, James Howard Mayes, Jr. and wife Lynn and Charles Henry Mayes and wife Pam all of Lumberton, NC; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Baker and husband John of Lumberton, NC, Wanda Sue Hall and husband Randy of Lumberton, NC, Mary Mayes of the home and Kathy Garner and husband Lacy of Carthage, NC; two sisters, Sue Laughlin of Lumberton, NC and Doris Long of Wilmington, NC; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at East Lumberton Church of God with Rev. Bruce Brumfield and Rev. Russell Kinlaw, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton.
