Mrs. HuVetta Thompson Smith, age 72, of Lumberton, NC, went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior and to be with her infant daughter, Tanya Evett, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. She was born in Robeson County, NC to the late Dewey & Nettie Thompson.

HuVetta worked in clothing retail for many years and spread joy to whomever she met along the way, from total strangers to nursing home patients and all people in between. There has never been a more loving, caring, or sweeter person. Heaven is rejoicing!

Along with her parents and her infant daughter, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Galloway & Bessie Thompson; her in-laws, Rudolph & Virginia Smith; two sisters, Johnsie Hedgpeth and Betty Hedgpeth; a brother, Junior Thompson; a brother-in-law, Wayne Smith; and a nephew, Jackson Griffin.

HuVetta is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kenny R. Smith, and her son, Phillip W. Smith, both of whom she loved with all of her heart. She is also survived by an adopted daughter, Kimberly Walters; two adopted granddaughters, Allie and Casey Eyers; two sisters, Carolyn Hardee and Lynda Nealy; two sisters-in-law, Pattie Griffin (Jack) and Anga Smith; and a brother-in-law, Gene Smith (Alberta); along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly as they did her, and two very special lifelong friends, Addie and Jeanette.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 12:00 PM at Meadowbrook Cemetery with Rev. LeRoy Burke and Pat Hash officiating.
