Hubert Lindner “Bubba” Covington Jr. went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at his home in Lumberton, NC.

Bubba was born to the late H.L. Covington Sr. and Margaret Covington on September 13, 1951, and he was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Covington, and his brother, Johnny Covington.

Bubba loved his family. Under his hard exterior was a soft heart that few people got to see. His two boys were often the topic of conversations he had. That was until his grandchildren came along. He loved his grandchildren with everything he had, and they always put a smile on his face.

Bubba’s true passion was law enforcement. He followed in his father’s footsteps and graduated in January 1975 from the 60th Basic Patrol School becoming a Trooper of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Bubba retired from the Highway Patrol in April 2004, but his law enforcement journey wouldn’t end there. He would later become an auxiliary officer with Lumberton Police Department. He worked many nights without pay just because he loved it. Bubba had a knack for always being in the right place at the right time, and he was always there to help anyone wearing a uniform.

Bubba is survived by his two sons, Kyle Covington and Chad Covington, both of Lumberton, NC. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Noah Covington, Liam Covington, Talan Covington, and Asher Covington.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. A service will follow at 2:00 PM.
