Homer Lee
Freeman
Nov 9, 1943 — Feb 20, 2016
Mr. Homer Lee Freeman, age 72, passed away early Saturday morning, February 20, 2016 at his home in Lumberton. He was born in Robeson County on November 9, 1943.
He was preceded in death by his parents, MD "Big Buddy" Freeman and Bertha Hunt Freeman; two sisters, Lucy F. Edwards and Lula Mae F. Jones; and seven brothers, Herbert H., Jessie R., Hezekiah, Alfred, Joseph "Joe", Stanley "Stant" Freeman, and Bruce Bryant.
After serving honorably in the United States Army Mr. Homer came back to his hometown to become a family man. Mr. Homer was a quiet and humble man, and an avid sportsman in his younger years. But his love and passion was "horses and old trucks" which he shared with his sons (you can tell this just by driving by his house). On any given Sunday you could find him riding or driving his horses around the community which often lead him to be featured in the local newspaper. Strike up a conversation about horses or cars and you had a friend for life. Some of his best horses were named, Scout, Lucky, Star, Jessica, Sunrise, Butterfly, Cecil, Princess, Jesse, Kaya, and his last colt he raised, Patches.
Mr. Homer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gladys H. Freeman; one daughter, Sandra H. Freeman; three sons, Jensen, Dennis, Sammy D. and wife, Kimberly R. Freeman; one son-in-law, Steve Berdeau; nine grandchildren, Brian A. and Matthew W. Fields, Jeremy C. Freeman, Casandra D. Locklear, Samantha C. L. "Sam", Samuel D. "Bubba", Jerret T., Gracie C. and Nicholas B. "Nick" Freeman; one great-grandchild, Chanel L.R. Locklear; one sister, Anna B. Freeman; four brothers, James R. and Velton Hunt, and MD "Hotshot" Jr. and Ben Freeman; and a great host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends such as, Shelly, Gilberto, and Ericka and family.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont. The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
