Herman Edward Madden, Jr., age 59, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Robeson County on August 6, 1956. He was formerly employed by the Robeson County Sheriff's Department; was a life long member of Smyrna Baptist Church of Wiregrass Road; was a former member of Britt's Volunteer Fire Department and the Lumberton Rescue Unit.  Also, he was a member of the Robeson County Beekeepers Association while enjoying Madden Apiary and teaching elementary students about honey bees.

He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Teresa Madden; and father and mother-in-law, Cardell and Florence Britt.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Madden of the home; 1 son, Derek Madden and 1 grandson, Tristen Madden, both also of the home; his parents, Herman Edward Madden, Sr. and Doris Coleman Madden of Lumberton; 2 brothers, Charles (Jackie) Madden of Lumberton and Kenny (Faye) Madden of St. Pauls; and 1 sister, Linda (Thomas) Pittman of Lumberton; and sister-in-law, Judy Britt of Lumberton
