Mr. Herbert Franklin Dowless, age 87, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Southeastern Health. He was born in Moore County on November 11, 1928 to the late Victor & Alta Dowless. He served honorably in the US Army and was formerly employed as a safety representative for the Highway Dept.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth Sanders and Carl Dowless.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Vada Musselwhite Dowless of the home; one son, Franklin Dowless and wife Molly of Wakefield, VA; one daughter, Julie Dowless of Lumberton; two brothers: Stewart Dowless and wife Irma and Gerald Dowless and wife Kay, all of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren: Zachary Dowless and wife Brooke and Sarah Dowless; two great-grandchildren: Alex Johnson and Jaxon Dowless; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at 12:00 PM at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Burial will take place prior to the service at 10:30 AM at Regan United Methodist Church Cemetery.
